The Experience

Before You Go

Hydrate before and during the trip

Carry a reusable water bottle and sip frequently—the desert dehydrates you faster than you think; bottled water is provided but bring extras if you’re prone to dehydration.

Wear closed-toe shoes

Bring sturdy trainers or desert boots for quad riding, dune walking and sandboarding to protect toes and provide traction on soft sand.

Expect motion on dune bashing

Dune bashing involves steep rises and drops—sit toward the center of the vehicle if you get motion sick and follow the captain’s safety instructions.

Protect camera gear from sand

Use a small dry bag or ziplock for phones and cameras; change lenses sparingly and keep equipment sealed when not shooting.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Ask to stop at a high dune away from the main viewpoint for quieter sunset photos
  • Request a short walk along dune ridgelines to see how wind patterns carve different faces—great for close-up sand texture shots

Wildlife

  • Camel (domestic)
  • Desert lizard and occasional desert fox tracks

Conservation Note

The desert is fragile—stick to marked tracks, support licensed operators who follow reserve rules, and pack out any waste to protect native flora and fauna.

The Lahbab dunes formed over millennia as wind transported sand and iron-rich minerals stained the grains red; long-term inhabitants of the region practiced camel-based pastoralism and falconry.

What to Bring

Closed-toe shoesEssential

Protects feet during quad riding, sandboarding and walking on hot or shifting sand.

Sun protection (hat & sunscreen)Essential

Late-afternoon sun is intense; broad-spectrum sunscreen and a brimmed hat reduce sunburn risk.

Reusable water bottleEssential

Staying hydrated is essential—operators supply water but extra capacity helps during active segments.

Light jacket or shawl

Evening desert temperatures can drop after sunset; a layer keeps you comfortable at camp and on the drive back.

Common Questions

Is dune bashing safe?

Licensed drivers operate the 4x4s and follow safety protocols; passengers should remain seated, wear seatbelts where provided, and follow the guide’s instructions.

Can children participate in quad biking?

Age and height restrictions vary by operator; children often can’t self-drive quads but may be allowed in supervised activities—check when booking.

Are food and drinks included?

The Premium Camp includes an international open buffet and soft drinks; water is provided throughout the tour and cultural snacks like dates and luqaimat are served.

What should I wear for the evening shows?

Casual, respectful clothing is fine—lightweight fabrics for daytime heat and a light layer for cooler nights; avoid swimwear or overly revealing attire out of cultural respect.
