The Experience

Before You Go

Bring reef-safe sunscreen

Protect coral and your skin—apply reef-safe SPF before boarding and reapply after swimming.

Hydrate and snack

Light refreshments are provided but bring a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated in the sun.

Expect motion and plan for seasickness

Open sea can be choppy; take anti-nausea meds before boarding if you’re prone to motion sickness.

Mind cruise-ship reboarding times

Cruise passengers must provide ship name and timings at booking to ensure timely return for re-boarding.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Secluded east-facing coves only reachable by boat—quiet snorkeling pockets away from the main beaches
  • Offshore reef pockets near the marina that host dense small-fish congregations during midday

Wildlife

  • Angelfish
  • Trumpetfish

Conservation Note

Coral reefs here are sensitive to warming and physical damage—use reef-safe sunscreen, avoid touching coral, and follow crew instructions to minimize impact.

Ocho Rios was historically a fishing village that developed into a tourism hub in the 20th century; local captains long used these waters for both fishing and transport to nearby coves.
