The Experience

Before You Go

Arrive early for calm seas

Morning departures usually offer flatter water and clearer snorkeling; aim for the first slot to maximize sheltered stops.

Use reef‑safe sunscreen

Coral reefs around St. Thomas and St. John are sensitive—apply reef-safe sunscreen before boarding to protect marine life.

Bring a personal snorkel mask

Snorkel equipment is provided but a well-fitting personal mask improves visibility and comfort under water.

Watch weather and sea conditions

Captains may change the route if seas are rough—bring motion‑sickness meds and flexible expectations for safety.

Local Knowledge

Hidden Gems

  • Waterlemon Cay (St. John) shallow reefs—excellent for relaxed snorkeling
  • Lovango Cay coves and quiet beaches for a low-key stop away from crowds

Wildlife

  • Green sea turtle
  • Colorful parrotfish

Conservation Note

Coral reefs here are vulnerable—use reef‑safe products, avoid standing on reefs, and respect protected areas like Virgin Islands National Park.

The U.S. Virgin Islands combine volcanic bedrock and reef growth and were part of the Danish West Indies before transfer to the United States in 1917, shaping local architecture and maritime culture.
